There are many safety features in your car that keep you safe.  The little warning light on the dashboard is one of the most important.  This light can tell you when things inside your car need to be fixed.  When something is wrong with your car, the check engine light is the first thing you notice.  This bright sign is the first sign that something more serious is wrong.  Ignoring it could lead to expensive fixes or drives that aren’t safe.  You can stay safe and save money by learning what it means.

    Highlights for Engine Health

    • Fuel cap seals that are too loose
    • Spark plugs that are worn out
    • Too many bad ignition coils
    • Old support for the engine

These problems can make your engine not work well.  Air or fuel could get in or out of the engine if the cap is too open.  The engine may cough and sputter if the coils and plugs are worn out.  Most of the time, any qualified mechanic can quickly do these easy fixes, which saves you time and money.

Facts about fuel and air flow Load amounts

    • Very rich mixes
    • Filters are blocked
    • Not clean MAF sensors

Too much air or fuel in the mix can make it work less well.  You need more fuel if your mix is lean.  It uses too much fuel when there is a thick mix.  If the filter gets clogged, air or fuel may not be able to get to the engine.  By checking these parts, you can keep your car clean and working well.

    Signals from Emission and Sensors

    • Faults with oxygen sensors
    • Problems with the catalyst
    • EVAP systems that leak
    • Gasoline leaks

Some sensors in your car check its own pollution.  If the oxygen monitor is broken, the engine may use more fuel.  More smog can happen if the converter is broken.  If there is a leak in the EVAP system, fuel fumes can get out.  You can escape big fines and keep the air clean if you notice these signs early.

Safety and Service Steps to Drive

    • Changing the oil often
    • Tune-ups on time
    • Diagnostics by experts
    • Low power in the battery

Do not wait when the check engine light comes on.  Oil changes and tune-ups are easy things that can be done to keep small problems from getting worse.  Pro scans can quickly find problems that are hidden.  Service can help you drive with peace of mind and keep your car from breaking down.  You can save money and act quickly if you know what each tip means.
